Overview

The Workplace Charging Scheme provides support for organisations towards the cost of installing up to 40 electric vehicle chargepoint sockets at their sites.

The scheme covers up to 75% of the total costs of the purchase and installation of EV chargepoints (including VAT), capped at a maximum of:

  • £500 per socket

  • 40 sockets across all sites per applicant – for instance, if you want to install them at 40 sites, you will have 1 socket available per site

It is open to eligible:

  • businesses

  • charities

  • public sector organisations

  • small accommodation businesses

Eligibility

To qualify, you must own the property or have landlord permission to install chargepoints at the site. The location must have dedicated off-road parking that is clearly linked to your premises and suitable for installation.

Before applying, your site should ideally be surveyed by an approved installer. You must also prove the parking is intended for staff or fleet use, not general customer parking, and it must be either on-site or reasonably close to the workplace.

For businesses:

  • Chargepoints are mainly for staff or fleet use, though they may be opened to local residents outside working hours
  • Shared car parks are allowed, but designated EV spaces must be assigned to you

For public authorities, charities, or small accommodation providers:

  • There are no restrictions on who can use the chargers (customers, guests, staff, or the public)

If working from home:

  • Your home must be your registered business address or listed on business rates
  • You must have off-road parking
  • You must use an authorised installer and a dual-use (domestic + commercial) chargepoint
  • Residential-only chargers are not eligible

Employers can also install chargers at employees’ homes for company vehicles, but must provide evidence of employment and permission.

How to apply

If your application is successful, you will be emailed a voucher code within 5 working days. You can give this to any authorised commercial chargepoint installer.

The email will also give:

  • your contact details

  • the installation site(s)

  • the expiry date

  • the number of sockets and sites for which the voucher is valid

The voucher will be valid for 180 days.

Once the chargepoints have been installed, the installer will claim the grant. The chargepoints must be installed and the grant claimed within 180 days of the voucher’s issue date.

Workplace Charging Scheme

This grant provides up to £500 per socket towards the cost of installing chargepoints at workplaces. You can apply for grants for up to 40 sockets across all your sites.
